About the Course

ECLIPSE's Rainbow Communities and Family Violence online course consists of three modules:

  • Module 1: Understanding Rainbow Communities introduces you to the diversity of rainbow people. You will be encouraged to reflect on your own personal beliefs and biases about rainbow people. You will be introduced to societal and structural discrimination which impacts on rainbow people.

  • Module 2: Family Violence in Rainbow Communities explores the dynamics of family violence unique to rainbow communities. You will be introduced to how coercive control is used to entrap rainbow people.

  • Module 3: Working with Rainbow People Experiencing Violence focuses on working safely to support rainbow people and the importance of working collaboratively with other agencies.

Through completing this online course, you will have a greater understanding of the following E2E capabilities:

  • Personal values and beliefs in relation to sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics.

  • Societal attitudes and behaviours that discriminate towards people from the LGBTQIA+ communities.

  • Some forms of family violence that are outside the gendered dynamic of family (e.g. abuse experienced by LGBTQIA+ people).

  • Societal norms, attitudes and myths that render LGBTQIA+ people who experience sexual harm invisible.

  • Recognise the different dynamics of family violence that may be experienced by people from the LGBTQIA+ communities.

  • Understand the range of specialist services and agencies available to people from the LGBTQIA+ community.
