Te Whare Aio and Te Whare o Ngā Tūmanako Māori Women's Refuges have combined ‘forces’ and are looking for a dynamic, motivated and experienced individual to join this amazing team working across Tamaki Makaurau – Auckland.
We currently have a vacancy for a Community Advocate covering West and Central Auckland.
In this role you are provided with Refuge frameworks to work collaboratively with community services and agencies to advocate and achieve the best outcomes for our tangata whaiora.
The right person will have an understanding of the dynamics dealing with whānau transforming from whānau violence, along with the knowledge of long and short term effects violence and abuse has on our whānau. Relevant experience working with vulnerable whānau is essential, as is a Social Worker qualification or experience working in a social services agency.
Other important attributes include:
- Understanding of Tikanga and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Principles
- Clear professional boundaries and a non-judgmental manner
- Being highly motivated to find outcomes, positive, solution focused and a team player are a must
- Flexible attitude and 'can do' approach
- Understanding of Risk
- Ability to put the wahine at the forefront of your mahi
- Ability to manage and work with competing priorities
- Adaptability and the ability to work in a fluid and stressful environment
- Applicants for this position must have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
You will have excellent communication and listening skills. Due to the level of administration required in this role, you will need to have excellent computer/IT skills. You will need a clean, full driver’s licence and positive police vetting results under the Vulnerable Children's Act.
This role is full time permanent, between the hours of Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm, with remuneration according to the individuals experience. This role is based in the community, and at the Ellerslie office. During your first 3 months you will be well supported with induction training.
