Pasifika and Family Violence
ECLIPSE's Pasifika and Family Violence e-learning module is a practical, thought-provoking e-learning course designed to strengthen your confidence when working alongside Pacific people who may be experiencing family violence. This course introduces you to the dynamics of family violence that Pacifica peoples can experience. This course will introduce you to concepts such as how faith, family centrality and culture, support resilience within Pacifica fanau and families. You will also explore the detrimental impacts of racism, stigma and how barriers to safe connection exist, and the importance of appropriately informed sectoral and practice response.

This online course is self-paced, so you can complete it at your own pace. There are spaces for you to reflect and quizzes throughout to test your learning. The online course includes a comprehensive workbook to support your learning. This online course is approximately 2 hours of learning.

This course covers the Essential level capabilities relating to Pacific people and family violence of the Te Aorerekura Entry to Expert Family Violence Workforce Capability Framework.​

ECLIPSE's Pasifika and Family Violence online course will help you to learn how to:

respond in ways that reduce harm, widen options, and support safe pathways to specialist services.

Through completing this online course, you will have a greater understanding of the following E2E capabilities:​

Recognise barriers to seeking help experienced by Pacific peoples, including language and communication difficulties, financial issues, stigma, trust and the preferred reliance on informal networks and community-based support.
Understand family centrality for Pacific peoples, and the need for family-centred safety response, healing and prevention services and support.
Adapt and apply practices that are appropriate and support safe engagement with Pacific peoples.
Recognise the different dynamics of family violence that may be experienced by Pacific peoples.
Demonstrates ability to seek assistance for people who may require interpreters or communication support.
Understands the range of specialist services and agencies available to Pacific peoples.
