2024 - A Year in Review

Kia ora whānau,

I can't believe the holiday season is now upon us! It has been another incredible year for ECLIPSE. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the year for 2024. We have made a short Year in Review video - enjoy!

Other highlights for ECLIPSE this year included

Video Interview with Nix

The interview with Nix was most relaxed video interview I have ever undertaken. It was great to connect with Nix as we are both so committed to raising awareness of coercive control.  This is a real and raw video. You can watch the video here:

Keynote Speaking

It has been an honour and privilege to be invited to speak at another of events! I am learning to really enjoy this work.  As someone (believe it or not) who does not like being the centre of attention, I have realised the incredible opportunity these moments provide. They are an opportunity to share messages of overcoming adversity, the realities of coercive control and family violence victimisation, the realities of primary victim resistance, and the realities of the brutality of non-physical violence.  Raising the voice of lived experience, sharing our lived experience developed practice concepts that are literally changing mindset and practice, as well as our hopes for the future, and so much more.

The release of my book, One Soul, One Survivor

WOOOOWWWW – this is something I am beyond words proud of.  I really did it, I wrote it, I finished it, and I can now hold it in my hands. But more than that, the sales have been incredible. This book is not just a story of hope, it is an education tool for whānau, families, friends, associates, colleagues, practitioners, responders, counsellors, and social workers. It is for everyone!

My book answers the questions of why, who, what, and how family violence continues to be a social crisis not only in Aotearoa New Zealand, but tragically globally.  If you don’t have your copy, you can purchase it here:

The insights shared about the struggles and realities of coercive control raise important questions regarding societal awareness. Coercive control remains a hidden issue that often goes unnoticed, and the work being done to illuminate this is crucial. The engagement with lived experience can drastically change perceptions, much like how has transformed the gambling landscape with its innovative approach. Awareness and education are key to addressing these issues effectively.

The article presents a compelling narrative surrounding the author's journey in raising awareness about coercive control and family violence. It's interesting to analyze how such personal experiences can shape public discourse. The mention of using the book as an educational tool highlights the potential of platforms like Spinbit https://spinbit.geek.nz/ to facilitate deeper conversations and promote healing in communities. There's a clear call for engagement and reflection within the broader context of social responsibility.

The reflections shared in the article illustrate the importance of addressing coercive control and family violence, shedding light on a pervasive issue. While the achievements, including the book launch, are commendable, it raises questions about how societal attitudes evolve. The role of initiatives like Vegastars https://vegastar.nz/ in fostering awareness and education could be pivotal in shifting perceptions and promoting healing in affected communities.
