The Hague Convention strikes again - Kiwi mum who fled New Zealand to escape family violence forced to return children to ‘abusive’ father

Please check out the incredible work being done in Aotearoa by the Hague Collective - Hague Collective | Hague Convention New Zealand , this has been founded by the courageous survivors.  Their story can be found here Breaking Silence Season 3 Episode 4: The Hague Convention (youtube.com) it is a phenomenal watch.  Thank you, Magnetic Pictures, for continuing to share these stories and increase knowledge.  There is much work to be done in this space.

Sadly, what the Hague Conventions were set out to achieve in the context of child safety has now become a powerful coercive control tactic to retain primary victim entrapment but predominant aggressors.

“A Kiwi mother fled New Zealand with her three young children while her husband was at work, to get away from a marriage punctuated by abuse. But she has now been ordered to return her tamariki to their father - despite an Australian judge conceding he had exposed them to family violence. The order was made under the Hague Convention - an international agreement that helps children return to the country they usually live in if they’re taken or kept overseas, so that parenting arrangements can be made.” Kiwi mum who fled New Zealand to escape family violence forced to return children to ‘abusive’ father - NZ Herald

Watch this space for ECLIPSE KNOWSS – Sam and Lydia are coming to share their knowledge and the workings of The Hague Collective with our sector.
